Everyone has a right to clearer, brighter, healthier skin. We believe that all should possess the knowledge on how to maintain healthy skin at any age, but not everyone knows how to unlock their skin’s potential. Here is the advice straight from our skin clinic on how to maintain healthy looking and feeling skin at any age.
Sun protection all year ‘round
Sun protection should be worn all year round, not just during the summer and while on holiday. Regardless of the time of the year, any form of prolonged sun exposure can affect your skin’s health. The UV rays in sunlight gradually degrade skin fibres like collagen, which are essential to plump and firm skin. This process is known as photoaging and becomes prevalent in later life with the sometimes-premature onset of the visible signs of ageing and volume loss. Also, prolonged sun exposure can lead to the development of hyperpigmentation that also becomes more and more prevalent as you age. Wear a broad-spectrum sun protection factor all year ‘round when exposed to the sun for long periods of time in order to combat the ageing damage of UV rays.
Regenerate your skin
A good at-home skincare routine is a good way of maintaining your skin’s health, but you could capitalise on these results by receiving skin clinic treatments. Treatments such as chemical peels help to exfoliate away the dead skin cells that are clogging your pores and blocking healthier skin cells from reaching the surface, and they also stimulate the production of fresh collagen. Mesotherapy, on the other hand, is another exemplary skin clinic treatment that delivers hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals, and amino-acids beneath the surface of the skin to rejuvenate and refresh it from the inside-out. Helping your skin to regenerate and boost its health sometimes requires more than your lifestyle and diet can provide, so skin clinic treatments are a perfect solution.
Live and eat consciously
Whatever we put into our body will find its way out again, and for our diet and lifestyle its often our skin that betrays us. For example, smoking can cause the onset of the premature signs of ageing, and too much sugar in our diets can also degrade our skin quality. Sugar’s ageing process is known as glycation, which is when their molecules attach to collagen proteins in your skin and break them down. This leads to a lack of skin structure and volume, causing volume loss and the appearance of fine lines. It can also cause inflammation in the skin, which again hinders its appearance. Living well and eating and drinking consciously will of course benefit your general health, but your skin will thank you for your efforts, too.
